Summary of my takeaway tips shared in the article
- Look for triggers – if you are asked about your diversity data for a report, client project, advertisement or tender – are you comfortable with your data or the voices your represent? This may be a trigger to highlight that you need to look at your diversity and inclusion strategy
- look at your sector – each sector is different and has different challenges. What’s going on in your sector and with your competitors may provide some insights for what you should be doing
- take the temperature – see what your employees and stakeholders are saying and thinking. Run the survey, hold some focus groups, observe behaviours
- come up with a strategy – what will you do and when? Get people involved and keep learning. Take positive actions, explain and measure them
- measure the changes – look at data through a diversity lens. Productivity stats, engagement surveys and the number of people joining and leaving can show us biases we are not aware of
- become inclusive – create a culture where people allow them to be persuaded of another point of view
