The primary goal of executive coaching is to help alleviate individual client’s problems that are perceived to reduce the impact  or effectiveness of their performance.  Executive coaching differs from business coaching. Executive coaching is specialised in that the process focuses on learning and development to improve performance of executives. The coaches who carry out executive coaching should be able to apply methodology to support behavioural changes. Business coaching differs as it is a more generic term which applies to any form of coaching that takes place in a workplace so could be dealing with competency development, new leadership support, team development, career transition etc.

“Executive coaching is a form of organisational learning through one-to-one conversations that facilitates development for a leader. It can be used in a variety of ways, for example, getting past an impasse, removing a stumbling block or drawing out and building on strengths.” (The Psychologist, 2014)

Successful outcomes of executive coaching are that an individual feels empowered and able to make individual change that helps them towards the goals they wish to achieve. Having an executive coach that will push you and hold you accountable can help you work towards career success and reduce impact of any career de-railers such as burnout or stress.
